The DATA On Africa

22 May 2002
DATA is a new organization aiming to raise awareness about the crisis of unpayable debts, the urgent need for foreign aid, and the unfair trade rules which keep Africa poor.

Launched this week to coincide with Bono's trip to Africa with US Treasury Secretary O'Neill, DATA will work with existing organizations on the crises of Debt, Aids and Trade in Africa.

Africa is the poorest continent on Earth, where average life expectancy is just 49 years and over 50 million children do not go to primary school.

A growing movement of people, including those behind DATA believe that solutions are within our grasp. People across Africa are demanding change. Now is the time to break the chains of debt, AIDS and trade which keep the people of Africa poor.

Whether you are the President of the United States, an AIDS activist, TV producer, office worker, soccer mom, rock star, priest, Pope or student, YOU can make a difference.

Here's how - DATA has joined with ten other leading anti-poverty organizations to launch as ONE.
